9in (22.85cm) Articulated Concrete Mats
The Construction Mat is primarily used for separation, stabilization, and protection of underwater pipelines
in deep and shallow water or where additional weight or armor is useful in onshore projects. The mat
weights 10,500 pounds (4,763kg) dry, 6,000 pounds (2,722kg) submerged, and is 9 inches (22.85cm) thick.
The design of the mats allows for self-silting and proper separation between the pipelines. The silt-in
process aids in the mat's stability. The Construction Mat is easily installed by a ROV (Remote Operated
Vehicle), diver handling frame or Submar's patented mechanical handling frame, especially designed for
ultra deep-water mattress deployment. Submar mats can be supplied with patented 'Non-Shielding', 'Non-Abrasive'
pads.
Articulating concrete mats have been used successfully in the North Sea for many years. Submar introduced
concrete mat technology to the Gulf of Mexico (Gulf) in 1990. Before that time, pipeline operators in
the Gulf used traditional sand/cement bags for pipeline crossings. Submar mats have been used very successfully
for pipeline separation, stabilization and protection. Articulated concrete mat crossings are accepted
as the new standard by DOT, MMS, contractors and pipeline operators. The concrete mat is superior in
quality of construction, costs savings, and worker safety compared to sand/cement bag technology.
Access can be gained to pipelines, valves or other protected structures by removing mats used as cover,
then replacing the same mats after maintenance. Recent advances in offshore technology have expanded
the need and utilization of concrete mats. Mats can be placed diver-less by ROV, which allows deepwater
deployment. New survey techniques allow accurate placement at great depths. Submar mats have an indefinite
lifetime in offshore applications.
Features/Benefits
- Easily transported along the West Coast of Africa on barges
- Easily stored by stacking
- Reusable. In some situations, where they have not become an integral part of the environment, the
mats can be moved and stored for future use
- Loops on mats allow for easily connecting mats or anchoring
- Individual blocks can be removed, allowing larger vegetation plantings, with compromising the
integrity of the mat (talk to us first, please)
- Mat design allows for water to drain through in both directions, reducing hydrostatic pressures
- Can be supplied with Submar's patented Non-Shielding, Non-Abrasive pads
- Ultra violet (UV) stabilized copolymer extruded fiber rope - extremely durable and will not rust
- ASTM rated materials
- Easily installed by Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), divers using a handling frame or Submar's
patented extreme deep water mechanical handling frame
- Allows for self-silting and adds to the underwater environment (home for undersea wildlife)
- By combining mat thicknesses, can meet requirements for pipe separation
- Weight keeps pipes or other structures in place and stable
- Grade preparation time and costs are reduced due to the flexible properties of the mats
- In many cases, the mats become an integral part of the environment, blending in and enhancing both
the stability of the area and allowing for vegetation to gain a foothold
- We can provide engineering expertise to aide you with your project and work with your team on
finding the best Submar West Africa product for the job
- Geo-textile fabrics can be used to further stop soil migration
- Standardized Sizes / Field Adjustable
- Reusable & Durable, Lace-able, Economical, Lifting straps on all 4 sides
- Inventoried
Applications
- Channel linings
- Slope protection
- Dam/spillway overflow protection
- Bridge pier and abutment scour protection
- Ocean-front protection
- Lakeshore protection
- Storm-water pipe and box culvert outlets
- Landfill drainage systems
